Forshage Ergo Update #3

Build is coming along nicely.
Truss rod is in.

Chris has been fantastic making himself available to discuss details of the build- couldn’t be happier at this point.

Forshage Ergo Update #2

Chris has sent me a couple of pics today of the neck being built.
Enjoy!

Forshage ergo update #1

I have a nice bookmatched mahogany back for the ergo build now.

Chris is still getting other guitars built before he works on mine in earnest.
Great communication thus far though.

Forshage Ergo

I’ve commissioned a new guitar from Texan luthier Chris Forshage of Forshage Custom Instruments.

I’ve been aware of a couple of ergonomic issues associated with ‘regular’ guitar.
The headstock  weight coupled with the weight of the tuners pushes the neck down away from the player and over the last 20 years of playing I’m finding that it is more of a struggle than I would like it to be.
Also, several surgical interventions and other postural issues have reinforced the need for something that is a bit better for me, as a player.

Forshage’s ergonomic guitars are loosely based on the work of Steve Klein’s ergonomic guitars but pushes the envelope a bit more in terms of playability and ergonomics, as well as being just damn pretty.

There is a lot more information over at Building The Ergonomic Guitar. BTEG seems to have stopped updating but there is a lot of information there.

My ergo will be a set neck, hollow mahogany body with maple top, maple neck with cocobolo fingerboard instrument.
Electronics will be a pair of Lollar highwind humbuckers.

Here is the top we started with:

Chris has already cut and glued the top, which you can see here:

Here is one with black hardware mounted on it:

The final product will have side mounted sound holes, chrome hardware and a satin finish.

Pretty exciting stuff- so far Chris has been absolutely great, particularly as I vacillated about various details of the build.

Fender Prosonic mods

Several people have emailed me recently asking for the Fender Prosonic mods that I had on the old page.
Sorry, I’ve been away recently and haven’t been able to get back to you.

You can now get the mods zip file here: Fender Prosonic Mods.

Thanks for your patience.

Steroid-abuse by stealth.

HRT is highly unlikely to be necessary for these boys- it is steroid-abuse by stealth.

Cut down on those carbs, people.

Interesting article titled “Diabetes explosion leads to 350 million suffering from disease worldwide.”

Neck Diagrams Forum is live

Neck Diagrams Forum is now live.

Neck Diagrams is the best tool I know for creating fretboard diagrams.
A while ago I emailed Justin, the developer of ND, with a couple of feature requests which he was very happy to implement (and did so within a couple of days).

I’m a moderator of the forum – feel free to drop by and say hi.
I will be publishing my entire Neck Diagrams library there quite soon.
