EventField Web: Turning Language into an Evolving Musical Field
EventField Web is a browser-based generative sound-design instrument that transforms written language into music.
Enter your own text- or import words from a webpage- and EventField translates each letter into Morse-code rhythms. These events are mapped across a chosen scale and distributed through a collection of synthesis voices, creating an evolving relationship between language, rhythm, harmony and timbre.
Inspired by process music, phase relationships and stochastic composition, EventField Web is designed less like a conventional synthesiser and more like a playable musical system. The same source text can produce sparse pulses, drifting harmonic structures, dense clouds or slowly changing ambient fields.
Shape the field
Each channel provides its own instrument and amplitude envelope, with detailed attack, decay, sustain and release controls. Two serial effects can be chained on every strip, including diffusion, spectral filtering, phase echo, chorus and spacious reverberation.
Sound can also move through the stereo field using conventional LFO shapes or less predictable behaviours such as random walks and Xenakis-inspired probability clouds.
Control over scale, tempo, velocity and event routing makes it possible to move between repetition and indeterminacy. A fixed seed can preserve a particular result, while randomisation opens the system to new interpretations.
Designed for ambient exploration
EventField Web has been created as an atmospheric workstation rather than a General MIDI instrument. Its sounds favour longer envelopes, spatial movement, layered effects and gradual transformation.
When playback is stopped, an adjustable fade allows the complete field-including its effect tails-to dissolve naturally instead of ending abruptly.
Everything runs directly in the browser. No installation or account is required, and saved layouts remain on your device.
