Web Apps

The apps began as an extension of my own compositional practice. I am interested in musical processes that are difficult to explore within a conventional timeline: loops that gradually move out of alignment, sounds that deteriorate through repetition, material generated from text and data, and systems that produce results without every detail being specified in advance.

Unlike the downloadable applications and plugins on the Software page, these tools run directly in a modern web browser. There is nothing to install, no plugin format to manage and no account required. Open an app, load or generate some material and begin exploring.

Each application is deliberately focused on a particular musical process. They are not intended to replace a DAW or provide a complete production environment. Instead, they act as small, specialised instruments that can generate ideas, reveal unexpected relationships and produce material for use within a wider composition.

Many of the apps are built around controlled randomness and indeterminacy. Rather than deciding exactly what will happen, you define the rules, limits and behaviours of a system, then listen to what emerges. The process becomes a collaboration between intention, chance and selection.

The browser is particularly well suited to this kind of work. It allows unusual, single-purpose instruments to be shared without installers, copy protection or dependence on a particular DAW. These are tools that may never make sense as conventional commercial plugins, but can still offer distinctive and genuinely useful ways of working with sound.
