I’ve released Common Origin, a new browser-based generative instrument from EventFieldAudio.
The instrument compares two probability models in real time:
simulated quantum walk in the left channel
classical random walk in the right channel
Both voices begin from a shared pitch and evolve for the same number of internal steps. Their resulting notes create intervals that reflect the different shapes and rates of spread produced by the two systems.
The steps control influences register and harmonic width, while the decoherence control gradually removes quantum interference and moves the left voice towards classical behaviour. At the classical endpoint, the two processes converge.
Common Origin is not connected to quantum hardware. It is a musical simulation designed to explore whether interference, measurement and decoherence can become useful compositional parameters.
